The government has given a package of Rs 1.70 lakh crore under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to provide relief to the poor, farmers and poor women most affected by the situation of lockdown. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced this in a press conference on Thursday. The government has also announced insurance of 50 lakh rupees for all doctors and nurses engaged in the war due to corona virus infection.

The Finance Minister said that the poor will be helped from both food and money. He said that every person who comes under BPL will get 5 kg of extra rice or wheat free for the next three months and every family for 1 kg of extra pulses for the next three months. 80 crore beneficiaries will get the benefit of five kilos of wheat or rice.
Similarly, wages under MNREGA were increased from 82 to 202 rupees. This will benefit 5 crore families and will have an additional income of Rs. 2000 per worker.
